Paul Heyman Says He Wants Sting In WWE, Talks CM Punk's WWE Departure

The following are highlights of a new DigitalSpy interview with Paul Heyman:
On Sting in WWE: "I think Sting would be denying his fans a great moment if Sting did notstep into WWE competition at least once. I have always been a huge admirer of what Sting brings to the table and his relationship with his audience, and I would be dramatically disappointed if Sting does not wrestle a WWE match."
On why fans are having a hard time letting go of CM Punk: "It's a very difficult break-up when an audience loses its ability tothrust its adulation upon their hero. CM Punk clearly established during his time as a Paul Heyman Guy that he was, as the billing suggested, The Best In The World."
"So when he abruptly disappears and the audience doesn't have the ability to say goodbye or shower him with their affection, then it causes a situation. It causes the audience to miss him even more vociferously, because they never had the closure of letting him know how much they appreciate his hard work."

Story Behind The "Yes!" Chant

- For those keeping track of who deservescredit as the originator of the "Yes!" chant, Daniel Bryan claims to have first seen it when UFC fighter Diego Sanchez would do it for UFC weigh-ins and his ring walk for UFC fights. Sanchez, however, says he first learned it from a Tony Robbins seminar. So, I guess Robbins is the guy responsible for the "Yes! Movement.

WWE Changes Idea For SummerSlam, Rusev To Win U.S. Title In Near Future?

There has been some talk within WWE regarding the possibility of having Sheamus drop theUnited States Championship to Rusev as a way to enhance Rusev and Lana's anti-American gimmick. The feeling is that the anti-American duo holding the "United States" championship would be good for getting Rusev and Lana some added heat with the fans.
At one point, the plan was for the Sheamus-Rusev title change to take place at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view. While that is no longer the direction they are headed, there is still talk of doing that angle at some point down the line.

Rampage Jackson Trashes TNA For Being Incompetent & Lying To Him

Bellator MMA fighter “Rampage” Jacksonslammed his former employer TNA Wrestling to the mat on Wednesday, calling them out for being incompetent and filling his head with big promises that never came through.
Rampage said he knew immediately that TNA was ran poorly and flat out refused to fight other MMA fighters in worked pro wrestlingmatches. Here are some highlights from Rampage’s interview with TheFightNerd.com from Wednesday:

If He Plans To Work For TNA Wrestling Again:

“To be honest, as soon as I went over there and saw their operation and how they ran things, there were no plans for me to go back. There was a lot of momentum with me when I came out with Kurt Angle and I was supposed to wrestle Kurt Angle and they lost all momentum.

They didn’t utilize me in any way, I gave them a couple ideas on how to utilize me and they wanted me to wrestle professional [MMA] fighters. I was like, ‘No, I’m not doing that.’ They just had no idea what they were doing, in my opinion. So no, you won’t see me in TNA ever again.”

Did He See The Writing On The Wall In TNA?

“Oh yeah, I saw it. I was like, I don’t know whats up with this company, I don’t know what’s going on, I’m outtie. Dixie and Big asked me to come over and do some stuff, they never came through on anything they said they were going to. You guys aint the first people to fill me full of dreams. I’m not buying into that.”

Chris Jericho Speaks On Collaborating With Other Musicians, His Influences & More

The following are highlights of a new JourneyOf A Frontman interview with Chris Jericho:
Alex Obert: Would you ever look into an opportunity for Michael Starr to appear at a Fozzy show and sing Tonite with you?
Chris Jericho: Not sure, I mean it’s always kind of fun. M. Shadows came and sang Sandpaper with us. Phil Campbell came and did Addictionwith us one time. It’s all about where you are and what the different bands schedules are and all that sort of thing. It would definitely be awesome, he did a great job on it. Love those guys and we’ll do a lot more towards with them again, so you never know.
Alex Obert: Regarding another guest vocalist on the album, who is Christie Cook and how did you discover her?
Chris Jericho: Rich has been working with her for years. She’s a girl from Atlanta and that music scene there. She was on the Duke record, I believe. And she actually did some touring with Rich when he took the Duke project on the road. She’s been in the Fozzy extended family for a while. And when it came time to start tracking Unstoppable, Rich had this vision of having a female vocalist on it to do a duet for a Gimme Shelter/Great Gig in the Sky type of a vibe. It would be where the girl is not just on the chorus, but actually having her in on the verses as well. We thought about should we get the typical Lzzy Hale or Cristina Scabbia or somebody like that, well we thought to just ask Christie. She’s already in the family and she’s a great singer. So we’ll give her the spotlight, give her a little day in the sun. We couldn’t have found a better singer. She absolutely nailed it, really did a great job on that song.
Alex Obert: What are your thoughts on the track, Scarecrow?
Chris Jericho: I love it. I think it’s a great song. When I first heard it, it was one of my favorites because it’s so different and weird, there’s a little bit of a prog element to it. Some of these songs on this record are a little more straightforward, little more of a poppy type vibe, Tonite or Lights Go Out, that sort of thing. No Good Way too. But then Scarecrow came on and it’s not a long song, but it’s very much progressive with the tempo changes and a really amazing chorus. It fits the vibe with a really super heavy riff. It’s a great tune, man. We think it’s gonna go over great live as well.
Alex Obert: You were telling me about Rich Ward earlier, how do you feel he influences you?
Chris Jericho: Well we’ve been working together for so long. I’ve learned a lot about music from Rich as far as phrasing for lyrics. He writes all the melodies for Fozzy and he knows exactly where my voice sounds best and what notes I would hit best. So I think rather than an influence, it’s more of a partnership. We kind of really work in tandem for everything that Fozzy does. Recording, that’s more his thing. Promotion is more my thing. Choosing what tours we accept, we think of that together. That’s the secret of being in band, there’s the songs and the music and that sort of thing, but the secret is more being able to get along and do a little bit of the give-and-take. It’s a good team. If you’re gonna win the Stanley Cup, you’ve got a guy that’s the main goalscorer, you’ve got a guy who’s killing penalties, and both of them have to know and respect the other person’s role in their team to win the game. That’s what we’ve figured out over the years, how to do that.
Alex Obert: With a live show, what’s the secret to being a good frontman?
Chris Jericho: Just a connection with the crowd. People want to have a good time when they come to a show and you have to do everything you can to let them know that it’s okay to have a good time. Some crowds are easier, some crowds are harder, but you have to go the extra mile to get those people to open up and realize that they’re there to have fun. So it’s all about the connection, man. It’s the same whether it’s a Fozzy show or a WWE show, you have to have that connection with the crowd. And when you get that, they’re gonna be more into what you’re doing.

Jeff Hardy Speaks On Retirement, TNA/Spike TV Situation, Sting, CM Punk & More

The following are highlights of a new Alternative Nation interview with Jeff Hardy:
Moving onto wrestling, the first thing I’ve got to ask, is what’s your reaction to the reports that SpikeTV won’t be renewing their contract with TNA, and all of the crazy stories flying around?
I don’t know, I’m not a social network guy, I don’t even read timelines or tweets. But I’m sure negotiations are – I still have hope. It’s not really my problem, but I hope we remain on Spike, I hope they can work something out. Gosh, I hope 1 or 2 years from now we’re still coming on every Thursday night on Spike. I don’t know, I go to the shows, I do the best I can in the ring. That’s my commitment to the company, is to do what I can do to make the show good. It’s their job to use me in the right fashion. As far as re-signing with Spike, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I hope we remain.
You’ve gone through a lot of character changes in the last year. How did bringing your Willow character to TNA come about, and when and why did you go back to being Jeff Hardy recently?
Years ago, I think my 2nd year in TNA on this 2nd run, my buddy Shannon Moore and his wife, she’s a phenomenal seamstress, and she made me a Willow mask. We’d thrown the idea around, but my hair was short, so I was like: ‘I need to grow my hair back if I want this to really look right.’ She made the mask, and then some time passed, and then maybe a year and a half or so later, my hair got longer. Jeff Jarrettand I started talking about the possibility of bringing Willow to TNA. I was like, ‘Yeah!’ I was kind of intimidated, but it’s one of those things that when I look back on my career, I’ll be glad I that I did it.
It’s something I would have loved to do years ago, but the timing was never right. WWE never would have went for it. They would never want ‘Jeff Hardy staying covered, because [he’s] this money maker.’ But that’s what’s so cool about TNA being open-minded, they take a few risks, especially with me, and letting me do that. Because instead of that aggressive heel bad guy character that Willow was back in the OMEGA days, I think now that we’ve experimented with it, it can be a more kid friendly type of deal. Because my daughter Ruby just loves Willow, Kurt Angle’s son Kody loves Willow too. When Jeff Hardy came back, I was just starting to see masks in the crowd, it was just getting rolling good.
But then the reason for Jeff Hardy’s return, is obviously because Matt Hardy came back, and naturally we wanted to do some Hardy Boyz tag matches. That’s the big match this week on Destination X,Thursday night at 9PM on SpikeTV, it’s going to be the Wolves and the Hardy Boyz for the World Tag Team Titles. But that’s basically why Willow is not around right now, because the Hardy Boyz have reunited.
You mentioned Matt being back in TNA, your facing the Wolves on Impact, and Team 3D on an upcoming episode. What’s it like tagging with Matt again after awhile being at such a good place in your life now? Also what was it like being back in the ring with Team 3D after so many years, and do you think you will continue tagging in TNA, maybe some other matches, like getting Beer Money back together?
Oh, that that would be amazing if that happened. But as Matt goes, I don’t know if he’s going to sign a long term deal, I don’t know what he wants to do. But I think the coolest thing for me, I did a few independent shots with Matt back in June, we had two tag matches and they were just great. The guys we worked were just awesome, and we just felt like we were just as good as we were back in the day. Now bringing that back to TV, after Matt and myself, we went through our dark period, and to come out of that and the other side still rocking it, it feels really good to say that we can still go out there and be the Hardy Boyz, and for the fans to still vibe on our style.
That run ended obviously with the Victory Road thing with Sting, and you had a match with Sting on Impact too and wrestled him a few times. What was your relationship like with Sting over the years, when he was in TNA?
It was great, I was still always a bit starstruck every time I would say hello to him at TV’s, because he’s the man. He’s a huge influence for me, back in the day it was him in the NWA, and The Ultimate Warrior in the WWF, that was the combined Jeff Hardy. It really shows now, I’m 36 years old, I think that influence shows pretty clearly through who I am now. But yeah it was great, I can’t wait to see him pop up here in the future.
A guy you did a lot with in the past was CM Punk, who recently reportedly retired. There have been different things said between you guys during the years, but it’s been 5 years now, how do you look back at that now as being a key feud in your career?
It was one of the biggest, pretty close to the best. We had a good chemistry, completely different people, but at the time it was perfect. He is so good, he is so good. That’s another collection as far as feuds go, that I am going to look back at and go, wow I am glad I got to work with that guy and create some immortal artwork that is going to go down in the history books. It’s all good now, I went through my times as far as the way I felt about him, but he’s a good guy, and a good wrestler, he’s done great.
In a perfect world, who would you like to wrestle before you retire? May it be from WWE, TNA, ROH, or wherever?
I think deep down, it would have to be Jushin Thunder Liger. When I first started watching Japanese wrestling way back in the day, he just stood out to me. A lot of the inspiration for Willow back then, was from [him], as far as the mask, superhero, or villain. Oh my gosh, to know he’s still flying over here and working every now and then, makes me want to say: ‘Hey, I want to be part of that dream match.’ So more than anything, I’d say it’s Jeff Hardy vs. Jushin Thunder Liger.

Brock Lesnar On RAW Next Week?, Update On The Rock's "Hercules" Opening

- The Rock's new film "Hercules" did $29,800,263 in its' opening weekend, finishing second behind "Lucy," which brought in $43.9 million. While the "Hercules" number isn't spectacular by any means for an opening of a $100 million budget movie, it was higher than industry projections.

- As noted recently, WWE has added some additional dates to the schedule of Brock Lesnar. As far as the build to SummerSlam is concerned, while Lesnar is only scheduled to appear onemore time on RAW, the "go-home" edition of the show on August 11th, there is a chance that he may appear on next week's show as well.

Backstage News On The Reason Behind Ricardo Rodriguez's WWE Release

As we noted on the website on Wednesday, Ricardo Rodriguez has been released from World Wrestling Entertainment. The reason he was released is pretty simple, as the company simply felt like they didn't have a role for him at this time.

Rodriguez had been doing some Spanishannouncing, as well as some work as part of the El Locale act in NXT. The general feeling was they didn't need him in the announcing role for Spanish broadcasts and that his size played against him when it came to possibly being used as a wrestler.

Backstage News On WrestleMania XXX Payoffs: How Did WWE Stars React?

The checks for this year's WrestleMania were sent out to talent this past week and mostly everyone should have received them at some point within the past few days.
The only word going around right now is that the payoffs were better than people were fearing they would be, but around what everyone pretty much expected.
Originally, talent feared that because of the situation surrounding the WWE Network and the confusion as to how that affects pay-per-viewbonuses, as well as the video game royalties coming in much lower than expected, talent were expecting WrestleMania checks to be much smaller than they actually ended up being.

Jim Ross Speaks On Sting In WWE, Lesnar vs. Cena, AJ Styles/WWE & More

The following are highlights of a new Busted Open Radio interview with Jim Ross:
Whether or not he regrets missing out on signing AJ Styles when he was in WWE: “I missed on him. He just started gettingrolling and he was just starting on the WCW roster when the WWE bought out WCW. Our team missed on him. We could have hired him, but he did not have the skill set he has now. In hindsight, the right thing occurred. He got moreexperience and ended up in TNA. I would suggest that his long run in TNA is what kept him from getting hired. From talking to him, he would be a huge asset to anyones roster.”
His contract with WWE ending: “I look it at it a little differently. I’ll never be able to pay back the debt I owe to the wrestling fans since 1974. I’ve been on this amazing journey and the genre of wrestling/sports entertainment whatever you call it. The fans have invested in my work and they have invested in my BBQ sauce, followed me on Twitter, downloaded the podcast. I’m just very grateful. This hasn’t been a sad week. I had to go through a certain period of time from a legal standpoint to fulfill all of my obligations for WWE. I’m now completely out there. I’m not looking for work. There’s plenty to do. I’ve said it a bunch of times, coming to WWE in 1993 was the best career move I ever made. I don’t owe them money and they don’t owe me any. We’re done. I have no regrets. The only thing I would have liked differently was the 3 bells palsy attacks and have to constantly explain to people why I don’t smile. I’d like to be more HD friendly. I wouldn’t change a thing and a lot of things are on the horizon.”
His new interview with Sting & Sting in WWE: “We go all the way back to the mid 80s so we really started way back. I don’t go for the dirt immediately. I let it come out naturally. I can tell you, thefunny thing is people don’t understand business. Just because he showed up at Comic Con doesn’t mean he has a contract with WWE. He’s got a contract with Mattel from what I understand. He has a contract with 2K. He has some sort of agreement with WWE to basically sell T-shirts, like a licensing/marketingdeal. It’s not a traditional legends deal. Him being in San Diego means zero about him wrestling there. People are getting pissed at me because I’m telling the truth. Wrestling people are not supposed to always be honest, so I say to the best of my knowledge he doesn’t have a wrestler contract, so the lock on Sting being in the ring in some point in time with WWE is there is no lock. If you’re going to have Sting wrestle, book it right. If I was there I can book it in 30 minutes easy. He wrestles once. And if he wrestles once and he says “win lose or draw I’m done”. That match is at Wrestlemania because it takes everything full circle. He’s said he wants to wrestle one Wrestlemania before calling it quits. He doesn’t need to win the Royal Runble. He doesn’t need to come on Raw every Monday. That’s stupid. He could make them a lot of money. I believe that the guy has paid his dues and deserves his Wrestlemania moment.”
Why WWE hasn’t signed Sting yet and should they: “There’s no logical reason why they shouldn’t. He has no drug or alcohol issues. He is in good health. A lot of those younger kids grew up watching him. That’s how I got Shawn Michaels to come back from his hiatus. I said if you don’t want to wrestle, that’s fine. Come back and be a positive influence in the locker room with your born againChristian faith and your outlook on life and how you screwed up your life and fixed it. You would be a positive influence. That’s how Shawn Michaels came back to WWE. He came back to help the young guys, got the itch, and he was better than he ever was. Have Sting around people. Have him at PR functions. There’s a lot of big time players that were one time big wrestling fans. I find it amazing that they say to me ‘man I remember when you said this.’ and sometimes that gets them a gig or interview. Sting has been on national television for how many years without missing a beat. He’s been on TBS, he’s been on Impact, he has a name and has been on ongoing TV forever. Why wouldn’t you have that story and have that great story. I hear WWE supposedly has 30 writers. If you tell me that 30 writers can’t come up with a storyline that would appeal to Vince McMahon, I’m sorry that they’re in that condition, a company that I have been and forever loyal to and a company I feel like I contributed a little bit back in the day when we were almost out of business in the mid 90s. Sing is in great shape. He goes to the gym. He doesn’t drink or smoke. Would you bring him back long term? No. But for one big match as part of an ensemble cast.”
Whether or not Sting has to wrestle for WWE to cement his legacy: “No. I think he wants to do it as a personal goal. When I was trying to hire him after WCW closed, he was owed so much money by Time Warner he would have been foolish to have come worked for us. I feel like he should be in the WWE Hall Of Fame even if he doesn’t wrestle a match. If the WWE is what they say they are, they are the gatekeepers for the business now. You shouldn’t have a 20 year career in the WWE to qualify, and when he goes in you should maximize that chance.”
A Sting vs. The Undertaker dream match: “As it’s working out now, that dream match with the Undertaker doesn’t exist anymore. A match with Undertaker was to try and beat the streak, so that mystique is over. That whole attraction of Undertakers streak is now a DVD. It’s over. You can’t replicate that. Stings opponent could be a lot of things. It could be a hot shot heel. I’m not big on him having to win his last match. If he wins, great. If he doesn’t, well as far as I know him, he could care less. Him winning his last match isn’t the issue. Him building up his last match, him being a part of the program, the promotion, the hype and finally being able to have that entrance and performing at Wrestlemania, that’s the end game. Maybe you could have that match with Undertaker and have that be a one off where both of them retire and go out guns blazing. ‘You were the guy up here (WWE) I was the guy down there (WCW) I just want to know who was best’. No returns, no returns, no appearance on Raw the night after, that’s it. I think they can have a great presentation. On the other side, you could have a hot young heel like Seth Rollins for example. Have him take a beating from Sting and have Rollins go over in the end. There’s so many ways to go about this, but bottom line is he deserves the opportunity. Austins not going to be there to wrestle. I highly doubt The Rock will be, so what are you gonna do?”
The Undertaker's Streak ending: “If you listen to my podcast, Shawn Michaels explains the whole story. The decision was made 4 hours before Wrestlemania started by Vince McMahon after sitting down and talking to Undertaker. I’m thinking it was to promote the network, which is the be all end all to WWE right now. They need to get subscribers.”
Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena: “I do fantasy booking on my podcast. Brock Lesnar is going to win the title at Summerslam. He’s going to be put into beast mode until April. At the Royal Rumble Roman Reigns will win the Rumble and Lesnar will pass the torch to Reigns at Wrestlemania. Reigns isn’t ready now. He needs to be protected now and the producers on the road have to work with him and coach him up. He has to be ready in April. He’s good enough now to win the Royal Rumble. I think that Lesnar is in beast mode and is not touched until April. He has to be booked like a heel but when he is working with Cena, there is going to be a tremendous amount of people cheering for Brock Lesnar. You can’t have that trend continue. He has to be a heel. You don’t want him going into Wrestlemania 31 as a face. That’s what I would do and I don’t care if wrestling fans are like ‘that’s predictable. I won’t watch!’ Yes you will.”

Tito Ortiz Says He's Returning To TNA Soon, Comments On Spike TV Negotiations

Bellator MMA fighter Tito Ortiz says he'll be returning to TNA Impact Wrestling soon, either in August or September. During an interview with CagesideSeats.com at Wednesday's Bellator media day in New York City, Ortiz said:
"I'm actually returning August or September. I'll be coming back to TNA and doing some stuff. It's in the works with Dixie. She reached out to me and I'm a big wrestlingfan. I've been a wrestling fan since Junkyard Dog! We have some ideas."
Ortiz, who has made multiple appearances for TNA over the years, returned to the company last August as the man behind TNA's cryptic #August1Warning viral campaign. He went on to have a wrestling angle with fellow MMA star "Rampage" Jackson to hype their fight at the Bellator 106 pay-per-view, which was ultimately canceled due to Ortiz suffering a neck injurywhile training.
TNA made mainstream headlines earlier this week when TMZ.com broke the news that their flagship television show Impact Wrestling was being dropped by Spike TV. Since then, both TNA and Spike have said they are still "in negotiations" - and Tito gave his thought's on Impact's future on Spike:
"I think Spike TV needs pro wrestling on there. I know they have a big fan base. Maybe it's all just negotiations, back-and-forth with money. It's a business and I understand that, so we'll see what happens"
