SMACKDOWN RESULTS 08/01/14

SMACKDOWN RESULTS FROM CORPUS CHRISTI, TX:

Jack Swagger defeated Cesaro via submission. Late in the match, Cesaro tried to land a big boot to Swagger’s face. Instead, Swagger grabbed his foot and turned it into an Ankle Lock. Cesaro struggled for a bit but eventually tapped out. Post-match, Rusev and Lana came out to interrupt a We the People yell from Swagger/Colter. It ended up with Lana issuing a challenge from Rusev to Swagger for a flag match at Summerslam, which Colter accepted for Swagger.

Randy Orton came to the ring talking about how Roman Reigns is the reason he isn't getting a title shot against Cena at Summerslam. He told Reigns he sent him a message on Raw recently, then dared him to step into the ring with him at Summerslam.

R-Truth defeated Bo Dallas via disqualification. Dallas was beating up on Truth in the corner and failed to heed the referee's instructions to break it, causing the DQ. Post-match, he continued the beatdown, then got on the mic to say that Bolieving is a spiritual experience and that R-Truth got what was coming to him. He said he knows the people Bolieve, then blew kisses to them, drawing boos from the crowd.

AJ Lee defeated Rosa Mendes in a non-title match via submission.Rosa screamed she wanted a title shot, and about 15 seconds later, AJ put on the Black Widow to make her tap out. Post-match, as AJ posed on stage with her Divas belt, Paige rushed out to attack and tossed her off the stage to the floor nearby. Trainers rushed out to check on AJ with Paige screaming "She's fine," and added that AJ is her best friend. She yelled to AJ to call her when she's feeling better.

Seth Rollins & Kane defeated Dean Ambrose in a handicap match via disqualification. At one point in the match, Ambrose managed to get Rollins alone in the ring to beat him up a bit. Eventually, Kane made a save, tossing Ambrose out of the ring and checking on Rollins in the ring. Ambrose returned again with a steel chair which he bashed on Kane. Rollins managed to escape up the ramp after the bell, with Ambrose taking out some more frustration by hitting Kane with the chair.

Diego defeated Fandango via pinfall. Fandango had the upper hand on Diego after a minute and a half into the contest. Fandango’s music hit and Torito started to dance with Summer Rae and Layla outside the ring, distracting Fandango. Diego hit his backbreaker finisher to get the pinfall win.

Alberto Del Rio defeated Dolph Ziggler via submission. The Miz was on guest commentary and during the match got on the announcers table to make a speech thanking various people. It distracted Dolph who got rolled up for a near fall. Miz also thanked Dolph for not being as good as him. Dolph got upset and went after Miz on the outside, but Miz escaped. When Dolph got back into the ring, Del Rio managed to get the upperhand and put on the Cross Armbreaker to make Ziggler tap.

Chris Jericho defeated Erick Rowan via pinfall. The win carried a stipulation that Rowan will be banned from ringside during Jericho’s match against Bray Wyatt at Summerslam. Bray Wyatt cut a promo before the match saying Jericho will just be dirt after Summerlam, and questioned why Jericho keeps returning to try to “save us.” In the match, Rowan had the advantage late in this contest which lasted 12 minutes of TV time. Rowan put Jericho in a bear hug late and went to smash him into the corner, but Jericho fought out. Jericho hit the Codebreaker to end things, getting the win. Wyatt was shown looking on, and got out of his rocking chair, then took off his hat. He started backing up the ramp as the crowd booed. Jericho celebrated to close the show out.

Undefeated Superstar Added to the “Battleground” Battle Royal (Contains Spoilers)

Bo Dallas

An undefeated superstar has been added to the “Battleground” Battle Royal. The over-the-top rope Battle Royal will determine who is the next WWE Intercontinental Champion, and during the July 1 “Smackdown” tapings, Bo Dallas announced that he will be participating in the event.
Dallas, who remains undefeated so far on WWE television, came out during the “Smackdown” tapings to face Diego of Los Matadores. During his walk to the ring, Dallas announced that not only would he be participating in the “Battleground” Battle Royal, but that he would be victorious and bring home the Intercontinental Championship for the first time.
The Intercontinental Championship was vacated during the June 30 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Bad News Barrett, who was the last man to reign Intercontinental Champion, had the title removed from him due to his inability to compete.
Barrett separated his shoulder during the June 24 “Smackdown” tapings, and will miss several months rehabilitating the injury. Dallas now joins the ever-growing number of superstars that will vie for the Intercontinental Championship at “Battleground” on July 20. The Battle Royal as it stands on July 2 currently has 10 participants.

Rumored Participants For Second MITB Match, Other MITB PPV Rumors

The main event for the June 29th WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view will be the ladder match for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which features John Cena, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Cesaro, Bray Wyatt and Alberto Del Rio. As noted recently, Cena or Reigns (and Cesaro as a long-shot) will likely come out on top, as the winner is the likely candidate for Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Also confirmed for the 6/29 PPV is a WWE Tag-Team Championship match with The Usos defending against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of The Wyatt Family.

The second ladder match, which was made official recently and will be for the usual Money In The Bank briefcase, as of right now only features Seth Rollins. Additional names rumored for the match include Dean Ambrose, Big E., Rob Van Dam, Bo Dallas, as well as Bad News Barrett and Dolph Ziggler, the latter two of which will either be part of that match or in an Intercontinental Championship match with each other.

Additionally, the direction for the WWE Divas Championship match at Money In The Bank seems to be Paige defending against Naomi of The Funkadactyls.

WWE Down On Bo Dallas, Adam Rose & Paige, Rose Buried Backstage

It's being said that Vince McMahon, who is still responsible for all of the key decisions in WWE, is still not sold on Bo Dallas, Adam Rose and Paige, three NXT talents that recently moved up to the main roster. McMahon has a reputation of not being the easiest person to accept new talent as top stars.

The fact that Adam Rose was kept off of RAW this past Monday night is considered a sign that the company is starting to cool off on his character. Additionally, WWE producer Kevin Dunn reportedly buried Rose backstage in recent weeks.

WWE OFFICIALS ALREADY SOURING ON NEW TALENTS DETAILS

adamroseAccording to sources, Adam Rose being kept off Monday’s RAW broadcast had nothing to do with his injury as he worked a match on Superstars. Numerous WWE officials including Vince McMahon have already “cooled off” on his character. For what it’s worth, Vince is not completely sold on any of the new characters as of late including Paige and Bo Dallas. Of course, with Vince making all the key/final decisions, that doesn’t spell good news for their futures on the main roster.

In a recent production meeting, Kevin Dunn reportedly buried Rose and Vince didn’t seem to disagree. This is also the reason Paige has the WWE Divas title but has also had very little character development. Kevin Dunn is said to be very high on Alicia Fox right now, thus the reason for her current push. Expect to see more and more of her on WWE television in the coming weeks.
